Life As We Live It ... on the road with Coleen and Bob

Where In the World Are Coleen and Bob?
(And Just What Are They Doing?)

We left our home base in Soldotna, Alaska, the last week of October. Although we didn't have firm plans, our tentative destination was Port Isabel, Texas. We arrived Thursday evening. Between those two points, we put 7,512 miles on our motorhome. What a trip!

To make our campground and restaurant reviews more helpful for you, we've decided to give them WOW ratings. A five WOW rating is the best! The ratings are based on our personal opinion. Our rating system is not based on how big an ad the business buys from us. We rate for value and the overall experience for us.

I was looking for the phone numbers of some state tourist departments and couldn't find them on their official tourism websites. That led me to dig around until I found them. If you need that info, there's now a list of them on our website.

Wherever you are in your travels, we wish you joy and prosperity,

Coleen

RV Life and Travel Tip

Carry two shorter drinking water hoses in your RV rather than one long one. When you don't need the extra length, you won't have the excess hose in the way. When you do nee the length, use the two together. And, if one springs a leak, you can use the other until you get the leaky one replaced.

All Valley Rio Grande Valley RV Show

A Texas RV show announcement caught our attention. The newest recreational vehicles, information on campgrounds and resorts, vendor booths of RVing supplies. We headed to Mercedes for the RGV show.

The highlight for us was meeting some of our RVing friends in person.

RV Life and Travel Tip

If fishing is part of your RV life and travels, this tip is for you. Before sticking your fish into the freezer, add water to the container. It's best to completely submerge the fish. However, even a water glaze on them will help prevent freezer burn.

Campground Review

Mustang Island State Park

Mustang Island State Park has camping facilities. I think of the park as being located in Corpus Christi, TX, but it has a Port Aransas address. It's part of the Texas state park system.

RV Life and Travel Tip

There's a cold weather tip floating around the Internet that advises spraying your windshields with a mix of water and vinegar to avoid frost. It goes on to say that there's something in vinegar that prevents it from freezing. That is not true; vinegar does freeze. I left a tub full of groceries in an unheated area overnight and the next morning, the only thing that had suffered from the freezing temperatures was a gallon of vinegar. Even though it wasn't a full bottle, the vinegar burst the plastic jug and made an awful mess.

Rio Grande Valley Old Farm Equipment Club Show

Farm equipment wasn't what we expected to see at the RGV Livestock Show Grounds. But the hit and miss engines, old tractors and other antique machinery, and tool displays were a fun find.

The Rio Grande Valley Old Farm Equipment Club was having their show the same weekend and at the same place as the All Valley Rio Grande Valley RV Show

Watkins Summit Group Bus. Info

We need to earn a living, even while we are RVing. Part of our income comes from my being an Independent Watkins Associate (ID #362289) within the Summit Group. You could be one, too.
