Life As We Live It ... on the road with Coleen and Bob

Where In the World Are Coleen and Bob?
(And just what are they doing?)

It's been a good week to be out in the RV park and the Port Isabel community. We've had sunshine and warmth. We like to walk down to the boat dock on the canal. There's often boats and fisherman to watch. And, pelicans!

We've also been taking in some of the activities at the club house. We tend to go to those with music. On Sunday afternoon there's a hymn sing. Tuesday evening is the jam session. Some Thursday evenings feature guest entertainers.

There's also a host of games, lessons, crafts, wii, and other activities here in the RV park. We skip most of them. Since we aren't retired, we need time to get our work done.

This issue of the e-zine highlights some of what we've been doing, answers an RVer's question, and gives you some RVing tips. Enjoy.

Wherever you are in your travels, we wish you joy and prosperity,

Coleen

RVing Tip

You can check to see how full your propane bottle is by doing a water test. Pour hot water down the outside of the propane bottle. Immediately run your hand down the bottle where you poured the water. You should be able to feel a change of temperature at the propane level.

Pelicans Watching the Fisherman at Park Center RV Park, Port Isabel, Texas

Pelicans hang around the beach waiting for fisherman to clean their catch and throw the carcasses into the water. I captured these shots at the docks at the Park Center RV Park in Port Isabel, TX.

RV Life and Travel Tip

If you have the type of lights in your RV that have two sections, put a brighter bulb in one side and a smaller watt light bulb in the other. Use one side for general room lighting and the other side for a night light. When you need brighter lights, such as for reading, use them both.

The Port Isabel Flea Market, a Sunday Market Offering Antiques to Baked Goods

The Port Isabel Flea Market is a fun place to stop after Sunday morning church or breakfast. The first booth we saw was a colorful display of metal lawn art. Then rocks. We ambled in to see more.

RVing Tip

Keep a folder in your RV where you put local information: campground map, area maps, brochures for tourist attractions, etc. When you move on, clear the folder so it is ready for the next stop.

Your RV Life and Travel Questions Answered

Finding a Camping Partner

~~ Guy asks: I'm looking for a camping partner. I'm looking for someone to split expenses with me for RVing. I'm retired and bored.

~~ I answered in part: To cut your RVing expenses, how about finding a destination RV park where you stay for at least a couple of months? Monthly rates are usually less than daily or weekly rates -- sometimes much less. While you are at the park, get involved.

~~ Read the rest of my answer -- and offer additional advice -- on the website.

RVing Tip

Use a cleaning solution in a spray bottle when washing your hands to conserve water. Spritz your hands a couple of times to wet them, then rub them together, and rinse. Use a non-toxic cleaner (we use Watkins) and the rinsing time is minimal.

RV Life and Travel Tip

A portable VHS radio has National Weather Service reports. It's good for both regular weather and emergency weather situations. It works in areas where there is no cell phone service.

Restaurant Review

Pancho's Mexican Restaurant for Authentic Mexican Food Lunch

Pancho's Mexican Restaurant is the most authentic Mexican cafe we've been to since we've been in Port Isabel, TX. Excellent steak rancheros, homemade chips, good service, and reasonable prices.

The TV was on, tuned to a Spanish station. When we came in, they added the closed captioning, in English.

Name that RV Dealer

~~ Sue asks: There used to be a great RV dealer right off the Ventura Freeway in California on the south side of the freeway either in Ventura or Oxnard. Can anyone remember what it was called or if it's still around?
