Life As We Live It ... on the road with Coleen and Bob

Where In the World Are Coleen and Bob?
(And Just What Are They Doing?)

We are in Rapid City, South Dakota. During our stay here, we are parked at a friend's farm, rather than at a campground. Once again, we are enjoying the wildlife in our back yard -- wild turkeys, deer, rabbits, blue birds, and a lone antelope.

We've had some questions about Bob's fishing in Port Mansfield, TX. His article this week should answer many of those questions for you.

Wherever you are in your travels, we wish you joy and prosperity,

Coleen

RVing Tip

Turn your RV refrigerator into a message center and photo display. Replace the standard door panels with sheets of thin cork from regular bulletin boards. You can then use push pins to post photos, notes, reminder lists, etc.

Bob's Article

Fishing from a Pier Can be Inexpensive and a Lot of Fun for RVers

One of the ways to cut the cost of fishing is to fish from a free public fishing pier. Notice that I said fishing pier. Some piers are open to the public but don't allow fishing, be aware of that.

I usually don't plan too much, maybe mentioning the possibility the night before so as not to interfere with plans I may have forgotten about. I don't like it too hot, too windy, too rainy, or too cold, so my tentative plans may change in the morning after looking out the window.

Campground Review

Airport Park Campground, a Concordia, KS City Park for RV Travelers

Airport Park Campground in Concordia, Kansas, is a park-like city campground with concrete pads. Some sites have water and electric. There's a dump station. RVers are asked to leave a donation.

RVing Tip

Screw the ends of your hose together before putting them back into the RV. It keeps dirt out of the hose and keeps water from dripping out of them and making a mess in the storage compartment.

Your RV Life and Travel Questions Answered

Domicile Information

~~ A future RVer asks: How do I determine what the State of Kansas considers to be a citizen for tax purposes? I am considering spending a lot of time RVing in Texas, but will own a home in Kansas because of the real estate market.

~~ I answered in part: To add to the confusion and complexity, residence, citizenship, and domicile are sometimes used interchangeably, but they don't mean the same thing.

Put fabric softener dryer sheets in several places throughout your RV before storing it for the off season. It will help keep it fresh smelling. Some claim that it will help to keep out mice.

Reader Feedback

~~ John H. writes: One of the things I miss are the photos you used to share. I still remember the pictures of old steam engines you posted several years ago as you traveled. It sure helps to complete my pictures of where you have been.

RVing Tip

Plug the inside overhead vent in your RV with an insulating material. You can get special vent pillows with washable covers. Or, cut a piece of Styrofoam into a square that can be tightly wedged in place. Or, attach snaps or Velcro and make a square of insulated fabric to go over it. Keeps out heat in summer. Keeps in heat in winter. Also helps prevent condensation.

Live out of your imagination, not your history. ~ Stephen Covey

A garden is a lot like life. Neglect the little things and it will deteriorate into chaos. Tend to the little things and it will thrive and become a thing of beauty. ~ Joe Gracia
