Life As We Live It ... on the road with Coleen and Bob

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Where In the World Are Coleen and Bob?
(And Just What Are They Doing?)

With Labor Day behind us, one phase of the RV and camping season is about done. But, while many folks are winterizing their RVs to put away for the winter, others are winterizing them for winter use.

Do you take your RV on late fall hunting trips? Do you take it when you go snow skiing? Are you spending the winter as a snowbird or Winter Texan? Do you live where it's camping season year round? Are you for some reason or another -- perhaps your job -- going to live in your RV this winter in cold country?

If you use your RV in the winter, we'd like to hear from you. How and where will you be RVing? Drop me an email.

This issue of the e-zine is a mix of RVing tips, interspersed with your questions and my replies. When you read through them, and think of something you'd like to add, please do. You often add things that I've missed.

Wherever you are in your travels, we wish you joy and prosperity,

Coleen

Your RV Life and Travel Questions Answered

Living in a 5th Wheel

~~ RV Life and Travel reader Bob asks: Is it bad to live in a 5th wheel trailer for a long period of time? Like two or more years? What problems will it cause to the 5th wheeler? Anything I should look out for?

~~ I answered in part: I don't think it is really a matter of whether it is a good way to live or a bad way to live, though. What matters is what you think about it and how you feel about it. And, sometimes that changes after you've spent a few months or few years full-time RVing.

As for it causing problems to the fifth-wheel, I think the biggest thing is probably going to be accelerated wear and tear.

How We Earn Our Living - Watkins Summit Group Bus. Info

I don't know if you know it or not, but I have a part-time business as a Watkins associate. I help people get Watkins products, and I help people across the U.S. and Canada earn income as associates, too. I build my business almost totally on referrals, so I'd like to ask for your help…. Would you please mention me and Watkins to everyone you talk to this week (including your Facebook friends)? And, if you hear anyone wanting a way to earn more income, or if they mention loving Watkins products, or if you just know that they like to keep their home, health, and cooking as natural and healthy as possible, PLEASE have them get in touch with me.

We need to earn a living, even while we are RVing. Part of our income comes from my being an Independent Watkins Associate (ID #362289) within the Summit Group. You could be one, too.

Unmetered RV Hook-ups

~~ A reader asks: For RV hook-ups, what does unmetered mean? I see campground ads for unmetered hook-ups and I don't know how they are different from regular ones. They look to be more expensive. Why?

~~ I answered in part: With unmetered electric, the RVer who isn't using as much is subsidizing the one who uses more.

RVing Tip

Save space in your galley cabinets by replacing your mismatched plastic containers with a matched set that stacks. I'm fond of Tupperware Square Rounds because they come in several sizes and they all fit neatly into one stack.

Carbon Monoxide Detector's Going Off

~~ Sandra asks: My CO detector is going off. I have a bad smell in my R.V., like cat urine or BO. Can it be a gas leak or my batteries draining? Please help. I don't want to go back in there.

~~ I answered in part: Are you sure it is your carbon monoxide (CO) detector that is going off and not your propane detector?

RV Living Through North Dakota Winters

~~ Allen asks: North Dakota winters … and I'm going to live in a pull style older bumper pull trailer. I'm just worried about the tanks. I can place heater tape and insulation to the tanks and exposed lines, but when I have to go dump the tanks, how can I go dump my tanks without them freezing in that temp?

~~ I answered in part: Moving your trailer each time would mean that you'd need to undo much of your winterizing first, dump, and then go back and winterize again. I think it would be better to leave your trailer in place for the season.

RV and Camping Tip

An oversized doormat, the rubber backed commercial kind they use at the entrance of businesses, is great for RVers and campers. Placed outside your RV or camper door, it traps a lot of gravel, sand, mud, and debris that would otherwise get tracked inside. Because they are rubber, they are easy to clean by hosing them off with soap and water.

Unused Used RV

Several readers added to my reply about buying a never used, used RV. Thanks for your comments. I'd forgotten about the "bugs" and recall work.
