FL Mail Processing Centers

by an RV Life and Travel website reader asks...
(Florida Mailing Address and Residency)

What is a good mail service in Florida, to use to not only to process mail while on the road, but also to help with establishing Florida residency?

Coleen, the RVing editor comments:

I don't have personal experience using a mail forwarding service in Florida. However, I can pass along some possibilities for Commercial Mail Receiving Agents (CMRA). CMRAs are registered with the United States Postal Service to receive mail for their customers. As you can see, mail handling and re-mail service is big business in FL.

Florida is one of the more popular home bases for RVers because they do not have an income tax. They used to tax investment income, but I believe that was changed in 2007, so that investment income is no longer taxed in Florida.

St. Brendan's Isle is a mail processing service that has been around quite a while. They advertise that they provide mail handling services to cruisers, RVers, traveling nurses, business executives, and merchant marines. Besides sending your mail to you, they have software that allows you to read your postal mail online. They have an informative website that you may find helpful. St. Brendan's Isle is located in Green Cove Springs, FL. http://www.sbimailservice.com

American Home Base, Inc. (AHB) is another Florida forwarding service. Their website mentions a diverse group of clients: armed forces personnel, contract workers working within and outside of the borders of the U.S.A., sailors, RV’ers, traveling nurses, and small businesses. AHB was previously American Mail and Travelers Service. Both the Good Sam Club and Camping World President’s Club use AHB's services for their member's mail forwarding. American Home Base, Inc. is located in Pensacola, FL They also have a website with information about the message and mail services they offer. www.amhomebase.com/index.html

Fast Forward Re-Mail is another licensed mail handling service. They are located in Orlando, so if you want a big city mailing address, this one may work for you. They have an interesting FAQ on their website. While glancing through it, I see they have a special service for you if you get called for jury duty and don't want to serve. It also states that they provide an anonymous remail service. It appears they offer a variety of extra services. www.fastforwardremail.com

MyRVmail.com is another CMRA. They are associated with Passport America, a discount camping club, and they give Passport America members a discount. Their website provides instructions for both viewing your mail online and forwarding you mail online. They also have a "Florida Facts" page with info on Florida residency, taxes, vehicle registration information, voter's rights, other info you may find helpful before making your decision. They are located in Crestview, FL. www.myrvmail.com

NATO Mail is one of the oldest mail services, having been in business since 1957. They are located in Sarasota, FL They offer both a P.O Box and a street address to their forwarding customers. They have an "Info Pack" on their website that gives info about their services and fees. They also have on their website the US Postal Service form, Form PS 1583, which CMRAs are required to have you fill out. www.natomail.com

The Mail Room Travel Services provides mail forwarding and is a full service mailbox facility. They provide Western Union money orders, 24-hour fax service, and notary public service. On their website, they stress that they will not use less than First Class Mail. The Mail Room mail processing center is located in Merritt Island, Fl. www.mailtravelservice.com

Voyagers Mail Forwarding was started by a couple spent two years living and cruising on a sailboat. They followed that experience with a pack and ship business. They cater to boaters, but serve RVers, vagabonds, and other people on the move. A service that they offer that I did not see advertised on the other mail forwarder's website is a bill pay service. With Voyagers Mail Forwarding, you have a Florida Keys address, Islamorada, FL. www.vmfs.com

There are likely others. The UPS Stores (formerly Mail Boxes Etc.) normally provide mailing service. You'll find them throughout Florida.

While you asked specifically about FL, I want to make sure you know about South Dakota. We have used the The UPS Store on Main Street in Rapid City, SD for many years and I highly recommend them. The article also lists what things we think are important and what we look for in choosing in a personal and business mail service. Coleen's Personal Recommendation
