Marlee's Restaurant: New to Port Isabel, and Offers Weekend Breakfast Buffet

Marlee's Restaurant just opened last month. Fresh paint. Freshly scrubbed tile floors. New tables and chairs that all matched. An eager to please waitress who turned out to be the owner.

Marlee's Ham and Egg Breakfast Special

Marlee's Restaurant just opened last month. Fresh paint. Freshly scrubbed tile floors. New tables and chairs that all matched. An eager to please waitress who turned out to be the owner.

We're spending a month or so RVing in Port Isabel, Texas. There's a bunch of small cafes. We're making the rounds and today it was Marlee's.

Like most of the others in town, Marlee's is mostly Mexican food with a few sandwiches and American food. And, like many of the others, she offers an inexpensive breakfast special.

That's what Bob and I both opted for this morning. The breakfast special was two eggs, choice of refried beans or hash brown potatoes, choice of ham or bacon, and toast. Cost was $2.99, same as what we are finding other places.

The atmosphere had more of an American feel to it than it did a Mexican. In fact, what set this breakfast apart was that it came with toast. At most of the cafes here, the specials either come with tortillas or a choice of toast, biscuits, or tortillas. The salsa was very mild.

Our eggs and meat were cooked to order. For the price, I won't complain about only getting one strip of bacon. But, since we've been making the rounds of local cafes, most of the similar breakfast specials have had two slices of bacon.

We've noticed the price of coffee at Port Isabel restaurants bounces from very inexpensive to more that we pay back home in Alaska (where restaurant food is known for its high prices). Coffee this morning was $1.75.

For RVers who prefer more Midwest style breakfasts, this may be a better choice than some of the other cafes in town. For buffet lovers, Marlee's Restaurant has a breakfast buffet on Saturday and Sunday mornings. We haven't tried the buffet, but it sounds like it is an American breakfast buffet with scrambled eggs, sausage, biscuits and gravy, and pancakes.

Marlee's Restaurant is located at 209 Maxim St, Port Isabel, Texas 78578. It's right next to Joe's Oyster Bar and Gulf Seafood. It is also kiddy-corner across the street from the US Post Office.

We ate at Marlee's Restaurant in January 2011.
