National Park Week - Celebrate with Special Activities and Free Park Admission

National Park Week, April 17-25, 2010, is a time to explore the stunning beauty and amazing stories found in your national parks -- for free.

The National Park Service will offer fee-free days, allowing visitors to check out the nation’s 392 national parks without paying an admission fee.

National parks across the country are hosting events and volunteer projects throughout the week. Many park partners, including tour operators, hotels, restaurants and gift shops, plan to participate in the celebration with discounts and special promotions to sweeten the deal.

Entrance to all 392 national parks is free during National Park Week. Normally, 147 parks charge entrance fees ranging from $3 to $25. The remaining national parks never charge entrance fees. Fees for activities such as camping, tours, or concessions are not affected by the entrance fee waiver.

In conjunction with National Park Week, Saturday, April 24, is National Junior Ranger Day. Children can take part in kid-friendly activities. They can also earn (receive) a junior ranger patch.

Earth Day also falls during National Park Week this year.

National Park Week is an annual presidentially proclaimed week for celebration and recognition of our national parks. Our national parks showcase magnificent natural landscapes and our varied yet interrelated heritage. Parks can provide recreational experiences, opportunities to learn and grow, and places of quiet refuge.

As the National Park Service says… This year, take a moment, an hour, a day to visit the national parks near you.
