The National Park System ... a place to explore nature, discover history, and have fun in the great outdoors. Its recreational facilities give us places to play. Its interpretive services help us learn.
Nearly 400 areas are in the system. These include national parks, monuments, battlefields, military parks, historical parks, historic sites, lakeshores, seashores, recreation areas, scenic rivers and trails, and the White House. The oldest is Yellowstone National Park, established in 1872.
National Parks Free Day - No Admission Charge
National Parks free day admission is the weekend of Aug. 14 and 15. The National Park System wants us to visit America's cultural, historical, and natural sites. So, the NPS is waiving day use fees.
