The National Park System ... a place to explore nature, discover history, and have fun in the great outdoors. Its recreational facilities give us places to play. Its interpretive services help us learn.




Nearly 400 areas are in the system. These include national parks, monuments, battlefields, military parks, historical parks, historic sites, lakeshores, seashores, recreation areas, scenic rivers and trails, and the White House. The oldest is Yellowstone National Park, established in 1872.

Nat. Park Fee Free Days in 2012 Gives RVers Free National Parks Entrance Free nat. park entrance, as well as free entrance to USFWS, BLM, and USFS lands, occurs throughout the year. The NPS is giving RV travelers and others free admission on these 17 days during 2012.

Senior and Access Passes: National Parks Discount Passes Now Available By Mail Senior and Access passes give free admission to national parks and federal recreation sites, along with a 50% discount on camping and boat launching. They are for seniors and the disabled.

Nat. Park Volunteer Awards Given for Outstanding and Enthusiastic Service Nat. park volunteer awards are one way the NPS shows its appreciation for those who give their time doing everything from presenting, "Who Dirtied the Anacostia," to cleaning dirty bathrooms.

National Parks Free Day - No Admission Charge National Parks free day admission is the weekend of Aug. 14 and 15. The National Park System wants us to visit America's cultural, historical, and natural sites. So, the NPS is waiving day use fees.
