Marchan's White Sands Seafood Restaurant and Bar Waterfront Dining

Marchan's White Sands caters to winter Texans. We went for dinner tonight and the place was full of senior RVers, feasting on specially priced meals. It's a seafood restaurant overlooking the water.

White Sands Restaurant Fish Dinner

The fried fish special caught my eye as we drove past earlier in the day. We'd been there before when we'd been in Port Isabel and we remembered the food was good. We've been having a lot of Mexican food lately, so we both opted for the fish baskets that come with coleslaw, French fries, and a dinner roll. It's $5.95 and includes all the fish you'd like to eat.

Marchan's is right on the waterfront, in Port Isabel. We watched pelicans and loons. A pair of pelicans gracefully floated by, reminding me of swans.

Along with looking out over the water, they had live music to entertain us. The sign outside had proclaimed "Live Music," but I hadn't expected that at 5:00 in the evening. A talented singer with a pleasing voice performed oldies and country music. The volume was low enough so that we could still visit and hear one another.

The menu is full of specials. There are breakfast specials and lunch specials. There are daily specials and early bird specials. And, there are Sunset Dinner Specials. Happy Hour is described as starting at 11 a.m. and lasting until closing.

Many of the dishes feature shrimp or fish. However, they also have Mexican food. It seemed a lot of people were having hamburgers. They also serve salads, chicken fried steak, chicken, and steaks.

Except for the staff, we may have been the youngest ones in the restaurant. Elderly couples and small groups of retirees filled the tables in both dining rooms. The parking lot was full of vehicles with license plates tags from seemingly every state but Texas.

The food was good. The service was okay. The prices are right, with breakfast specials starting at just $1.50 for French toast, and lunch specials (half pound hamburger and chips) starting at $3.00. It's within walking distance of several RV parks, including Park Center where we are staying. No wonder it was full of RVers!

We ate at Marchan's White Sands Restaurant in January 2011.

WOW rating: 3 1/2

Update: On a later visit we tried the hamburgers.
