Life As We Live It ... on the road with Coleen and Bob

Where In the World Are Coleen and Bob?
(And Just What Are They Doing?)

We continue to appreciate the quietness of Port Mansfield, Texas. At least this time of year it is quiet. Locals tell us that the community brims to overflowing with fishermen and boaters in the summer months.

We find ourselves gravitating towards the county park here in town. It is on the water's edge. Bob fishes. Though, I'm not sure he is very intent on catching anything. He walks to the end of the fishing pier and watches the birds, schools of mullet, dolphins, and the gentle waves. While he fishes, I can watch the water and birds as I write. When Bob does bring home fish (usually black or red drum) it is cleaned and ready for the frying pan. And, since we are in the motorhome, we can cook it and eat it right there, about as fresh as a fish dinner can be.

Wherever you are in your travels, we wish you joy and prosperity,

The Port Isabel Sunset Paints the Canal with a Golden Blush

The Port Isabel sunset casts a glow on the shrimp boats in the canal, as well as on the water, fishing piers, and buildings behind them. This was our evening view from the campsite at Park Center.

RVing Trends

RVers are Shifting Towards Towables

There was a time when motorhomes were the preferred recreational vehicle. That aspiration is apparently fading. RVers are switching to towables -- pop-up campers, bumper pull trailers, and fifth-wheel trailers. This trend is so strong that Family Motor Coach Association (FMCA) is welcoming self-contained travel trailer owners at its March 14-17, 2011, convention at the Georgia National Fairgrounds & Agricenter.

Campground Review

Park Center RV Park, Port Isabel, Texas' Home to Winter Texans

Park Center RV park is a busy Winter Texan campground in Port Isabel, TX, with daily, weekly, and monthly rates. It sits across the causeway from the coveted South Padre Island beaches.

We've stayed at the Port Isabel Park Center three times -- and had three very different experiences. It was like staying at three dissimilar campgrounds. What made the difference was the part of the park where we stayed.

Your RV Life and Travel Questions Answered

Triple Towing

~~ Clyde asks: Do you know what states that you cannot do a triple tow? Such as a trailer and a small trailer behind our self contained trailer? I understand that there are some states that do not allow this, but not sure which ones.

~~ I answered in part: Some states regulate towing according to the overall length of your rig. Some prohibit triple towing completely. Also, please keep in mind that just because it may be legal to tow two trailers doesn't mean it is safe to do so.

~~ Read the rest of my answer -- and offer additional advice -- on the website.
