Life As We Live It ... on the road with Coleen and Bob

Where In the World Are Coleen and Bob?
(And Just What Are They Doing?)

We're in the midst of spring break here in Port Mansfield. Locals tell us the only time there is more traffic in town is over the Fourth of July holiday. Still, this isn't anything like the masses of college kids we saw the year we were at Port Isabel during spring break.

I enjoyed reading the campground recommendations you sent. They ranged from free-with-a-donation to one that charged $1500.00 for the monthly rate. Quite a few of you recommended campgrounds in South Dakota. After checking the weather forecasts for here, South Dakota, and home in Alaska, we decided to extend our stay here south Texas.

Today, I paid the rent here at Bayview R-V Park for another month. The monthly rate for a site with water, sewer, and electric hook-ups is $160.00. It includes free WiFi. We do have to pay our metered electricity. Our electric cost for the past month was $5.22, and that is with our refrigerator running on electric, as well as using the microwave, toaster, crockpot, computer, lights, etc. It's really an excellent deal, especially when we like the park and the community.

Bob is starting to write articles to add to our websites and newsletters. This week, he writes about his Sea Eagle inflatable boat. I think you'll like the new voice he provides.

Wherever you are in your travels, we wish you joy and prosperity,

Bob's Boat Article

My Sea Eagle Boat Is a Lot of Fun, It's Safe, and It Fits In My RV

My Sea Eagle boat saved me from being boatless. It's an inflatable, so it packs up to fit in our RV. It's safe and stable. I have a lot of fun with it, fishing, or just being out on the water.

For most of my life, I have always had, or had access to, a boat. Then Coleen and I went fulltime RVing. I was without a boat for several years.

RV Life and Travel Tip

Popcorn is a frugal RVing snack. Depending on your power source, and they type of RVing you do, you can microwave it, use a stove top popper, or pop it over a campfire.

The Port Mansfield Sunset Radiates Brilliantly Behind the Palms

The Port Mansfield sunset is a fiery ball of brilliance behind the palm trees. These pictures show our view from Bayview R-V Park. We're treated to this glowing scene most every evening.

RVing Tip

Hang a small basket on your RV galley wall to hold napkins. It keeps them within easy reach. And, they aren't taking up space in a drawer.

Free Entrance to National Parks During NP Week

America’s 394 national parks offer many close-to-home opportunities for outdoor recreation. The growing connection between public lands and public health is the focus of National Park Week, April 16-24. Entrance to all national parks is free throughout the week. In addition to waiving entrance fees throughout the week, national parks and park partners are offering programs as part of National Park Week festivities.

Watkins Summit Group Bus. Info

We need to earn a living, even while we are RVing. Part of our income comes from my being an Independent Watkins Associate (ID #362289) within the Summit Group. You could be one, too.

Restaurant Review

Eateries in Port Mansfield, TX

We've found three restaurants here in Port Mansfield.

El Jefe's Restaurant and Cantina

When we stay in a community for a few weeks, we invariable find a favorite restaurant. It's one that we're comfortable returning to day in and day out. It's about the feeling of being "at home" there, as much as it is about the food. Here in Port Mansfield, it is El Jefe's.

~~ Read more about this local on the website.

Windjammer Restaurant and Lounge

The Windjammer Restaurant and Lounge is Port Mansfield's eatery for, what I call, "ordinary American food." Still in south Texas and needing a break from Mexican food, we found it a welcome change. The intrigue of this restaurant starts on the outside. The building is shaped like a boat.

~~ Read the rest of what I wrote about the Windjammer on the website.

Sweet Gregory P's Serves Up the BBQ

Bob choose the brisket sandwich and potato salad. Greg cut thick slabs of meat from the brisket and piled it on the grilled Keyser roll.

RVing Tip

Collect tote bags and use them in your RV for… storing extra shoes, trips to the shower house, as a beach bag, collecting dirty laundry, portable file boxes, tool bags, carrying your groceries, shopping at flea markets and farmers markets, keeping your table settings together that you take to pot-lucks, and corralling magazines and books.
