Where In the World Are Coleen and Bob?
(And Just What Are They Doing?)

Since I have jury duty this month, we are not out RVing and camping. So, the featured article this week goes back to my first experiences of family vacations in a pickup camper. It comes with advice for making RVing trips more fun for kids.

If you missed the guest article from last week's newsletter, please take time to read it. It touched people's hearts. Thank you, Marty Chambers, for sharing your personal story.

Tote bags can corral all sorts of things. You can snatch a single item out of them, or grab the entire bag to take with you.

Taking Kids Camping Is a Lot More Fun for the Kids When Things are Kept Simple

How much more fun it would have been if we'd simply roasted hot-dogs. Or had bologna sandwiches and potato chips. Yes, it was the seventies, but what kid ever yearned for a meal of molded lime Jello with artfully arranged pears slices, dainty ham roll-ups with mushroom sauce, and escalloped vegetable casseroles? My advice for camping with kids is to opt for one dish meals and go heavy on the finger foods.

Use sleeping bags. And, don't worry if a little sand gets inside them.

Your RV Life and Travel Questions Answered

RV Depreciation

~~ travelinggal asks: Why the small depreciation on used RVs? As a single woman, I've been looking at Class B vehicles, such at RoadTrek and other vans, but even the used models cost $30,000 - $50,000. Why isn't RV depreciation as severe as it is with a new car?

~~ I answered in part: As someone looking to buy another used RV myself, I understand where you are coming from. The prices of some of these recreational vehicles, especially B vans, does seem high. Honestly, I think it is because that whatever we want to buy always seems to cost more than what we want to pay for it.

RV Life and Travel Tip

Weather forecasts and warnings are often given by county rather than by city. When the weather looks threatening, find out what county you are in so that you know if you are in the path of an approaching storm.

RVing and Camping Tip

Seems food served on sticks is the big thing at state fairs this year. Meatloaf on a stick easily adapts to camping and RVing. Make your usual meatloaf recipe. Form the mixture hot-dog style around a wiener roasting stick. Wrap the meatloaf dog tightly with aluminum foil. Hold over a campfire until done. If you prefer the end pieces of a meatloaf, remove the foil and finish cooking for a short bit directly over the fire.
