Life As We Live It ... on the road with Coleen and Bob

Where In the World Are Coleen and Bob?
(And Just What Are They Doing?)

Bob and I hope that you have a wonderful Memorial Day weekend.

This weekend may not be the official start of summer, but for many, it's the official start of the summer season. Campgrounds that have been closed for the winter are now open. Businesses that cater to tourists are opening their doors this weekend. And traffic is picking up, with RVs and boats making up a good part of it.

I've seen quite an array of RVs go past. A multi-colored renovated school bus. A 40 foot, lavish motorcoach towing an ocean going boat nearly as long. Homemade, plywood campers on old pickup trucks. Rented Class C motorhomes. Trailers -- from pop-ups, to bumper pulls, to fifth wheels. Class Bs that have me drooling. New and old, big and small. Locals going out for the weekend. Full-timers spending the summer in Alaska. Campers here on their trip-of-a-lifetime vacations. And, whatever the size, age, or cost of the rig, the folks in these rigs will end up side by side in RV parks, all enjoying their own version of "RVing."

Please travel safely.

Wherever you are in your travels, we wish you joy and prosperity,

Full-time RVing Tip

Store you holiday decorations in suitcases. When you go to travel without your RV, you'll have the luggage you need. However, the rest of the time, it will keep those seasonal items clean and corralled.

RV Life and Travel Tip

Rug keeps dirt outside. During the process of getting situated at a campground or RV park, there are always more than the usual number of trips in and out of the RV. When you first get to your site, put a rug or mat outside your door. Do this before the family and pets first go from tow vehicle to trailer. Do it before you go in to check gauges or levels. Do it before you realize that the area has burrs, sand, dried grass, mud, etc. It's an easy way to keep dirt and debris from being tracked inside during the set-up process.

Frugal RVing Tips For Thrifty RV Travel and Economical Full-time RVing

Frugal RVing can be among the least costly ways to live and travel. Living in an RV full-time can be very economical. Here are ten assorted ways to cut your RVing costs.

1. Frugal RVers spend their money on the gift, not on the packaging and shipping. Consider presents that can be sent in a regular envelope. Or, order from a catalog and have the gift sent directly to the recipient.

Camping and RVing Tip

Disposable washcloths are great in an RV. These are the kind made for medical patients or others who cannot get into a shower or bathtub. One brand is Attends. They are similar to baby wipes or wet wipes, but bigger and stronger. I use them for all sorts of things from a "sponge bath" to quick housekeeping tasks. If your RVing involves picnics or eating outside, they are better than napkins. We travel with water and we do use our shower. But, if we are boondocking and want to be extra conservative with water, or if we are just in a hurry, the disposable wash cloths fill the bill.

RVing Tip

Be careful up there. Don't walk on the roof of your RV unless you know where it is safe to do so. You can damage the roof if you step in the wrong spot.
