Life As We Live It ... on the road with Coleen and Bob

Where In the World Are Coleen and Bob?
(And Just What Are They Doing?)

If you only read one article from this newsletter, make it Bob Hazlett's story about this Thanksgiving away from his children. It's a moving story that touches the heart of why so many of us love RVing. And, if you are feeling a bit sad for being away from your kids and grandkids this Christmas, you may find his perspective gives you a needed lift.

Not to confuse you with more than one Bob....

Bob Hazlett is one of our readers. Mr. Hazlett is a full-time RVer, currently in California. When I invited you to share about your RVing holidays, he generously took me up on the offer and submitted his story. (We still invite you to share your holiday story.)

The other Bob that has articles in this issue is my husband, Bob Nilles. We're celebrating this winter's special days in Alaska, including his birthday on Saturday!

Wherever you are in your travels, we wish you joy and prosperity, and the best Christmas ever,

Holidays Far From Home

by Bob Hazlett - Yucca Valley, CA

The Joshua tree will never be a Christmas tree and most people call it ugly. My feeling is more one of appreciation. I have never seen anything in nature that is ugly -- just different.

This Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years is different than any other in our life. We are from Ohio (read: north--cold, and east--wet). Continue with more.

RVing with 14 Chihuahuas

Here's more about full-time RVing with dogs. RVer Mike offers his solution to RVing with dogs -- lots of dogs. I'm not sure if he's serious; he added "lol" a couple of times, so he may just be pulling our leg. It gave me a chuckle. If he's serious, and I had the neighboring RV spot or if I owned the campground, I may not think it was funny. Give it a read and let us know what you think (his comments are toward the end of the page).

You'll also find an RVing dog dressed for Christmas on that page.

Power Inverters and C-pap Machines

We received several responses to the question about RVing and powering a C-pap machine from RVers who work with them and use them on a regular basis. They are all very encouraging and offer some low cost solutions. You'll find that discussion here, with new comments added at the end.

More Tips on Cold Weather RVing

"RV Life and Travel" reader Crickett shared some tips on keeping warm and keeping your RV from freezing when you are parked where it is cold. This discussion started a while back, and Crickett's tips are posted near the end of the page.

There's a second discussion on cold weather RVing, with recently added posts. You'll find it here.

Backing Up a Pop-up Camper

Someone asked for an easy lesson on backing up a pop-up trailer. I deferred that request to Bob. My advice would have been to always look ahead, plan, and try to never get into situations that require backing. Bob agreed with the looking ahead and planning part. But then, he gave some sensible advice on learning to back up a trailer.

Your RV Life and Travel Questions Answered

Traveling With the Propane On

~~ A future RVer asks: Is it okay to travel with the propane furnace on, when traveling when outside temps are below freezing? Is it okay to travel with the refrigerator operating on LP?

~~ Bob answered in part: Traveling with the propane furnace on is NOT okay. A furnace has a full flame and the turbulence from the wind outside the rig can raise havoc with the air intake and exhaust of the unit. Read the rest of our answer on our RV Life and Travel website.
