Where In the World Are Coleen and Bob?
(And Just What Are They Doing?)

Take a trip to Port Isabel, Texas, with me. Sitting here in Alaska, looking out at the piles of snow, I’ve been reminiscing about Texas winters. Two years ago, we were in Port Isabel. What a contract between places. Do some "arm chair traveling" with me, as we look back.

Wherever you are in your travels, arm chair or out on the road, we wish you joy and prosperity,

Park Center RV Park, Port Isabel, Texas, Home to Winter Texans

Park Center was our "home park" while we stayed in Port Isabel. We liked it there and would recommend it. I wrote about it here.

Park Center sits right on the docks. We got a real kick out of watching the pelicans come to eat fish scraps the fishermen were throwing to them. If you enjoy pictures, you’ll want to take a look at this article.

The Appeal of Port Isabel – Sunsets to Flea Markets

The Port Isabel sunset paints the canal with a golden blush. See the photos.

The Port Isabel Flea Market, was a Sunday market offering antiques to baked goods to rocks. I got a kick out of the metal yard art in the photo. Take a look.

We Enjoyed Eating Out – Mexican Food and Fresh Seafood

Los Cabos Mexican Restaurant took the number one spot on our list of Port Isabel places to eat. Tasty food, friendly and efficient service, can't-be-beat prices, generous servings, and clean. Read more.

Pancho's Mexican Restaurant is the most authentic Mexican cafe we've been to in Port Isabel, and for that matter, one of the most authentic on the entire trip. Excellent steak rancheros, homemade chips, good service, and reasonable prices. The chili rellenos in the picture are about enough to make a person drool – go ahead and see for yourself.

The Mexiquito Restaurant attracts RVers with its bright green building and its breakfast specials. Winter Texans also go to this Port Isabel cafe for its all-you-can-eat shrimp and fish plates. Read more.

RV Life and Travel Tip

We use an electric toothbrush in the RV. I didn't want it sitting on the bathroom vanity because then I would need to put it somewhere else every time we traveled. Still, it needed to be somewhere that it could sometimes be plugged in to recharge the battery.

The solution we found was to put it in the medicine cabinet and to cut a hole in the bottom of the cabinet for the cord and plug to come though. Bob shortened the cord so it reaches the nearby outlet, but doesn't have excess cord dangling. When we are traveling or using solar and want to be particularly conservative, we unplug it. When we have electric, it gets plugged in. The toothbrush heads and the charging unit stay clean and secure in the cabinet. An added benefit is the hole for the cord also lets air into the cabinet.
