Life As We Live It ... on the road with Coleen and Bob

Where In the World Are Coleen and Bob?
(And Just What Are They Doing?)

Merry Christmas! Bob and I hope this finds you in the midst of a wonderful Christmas celebration.

We're having a white Christmas this year. The spruce tree branches are hanging, heavily laden with snow. With our clear nights and starts shining bright, we're living in a life-size Christmas card scene.

Your first Christmas as a full-time RVer -- it's one of those things you never forget. Ours was a planned dinner at the Escapees RV Club headquarters in Livingston, TX. Each person at the table was assigned to bring a particular dish. The couple who was supposed to bring mashed potatoes miscalculated the cooking time and sheepishly showed up without them. Bob and I were seated where we could hear the conversations on both ends of the table. On one end, the embarrassed story of why there were no potatoes. On the other end, people kept asking us to pass those non-existent spuds -- and they were not happy to learn there were none. I was thankful we had arrived at the park after the planning was done, so we were asked to bring pickles and olives. Twenty-some years later, I still feel for that poor potato-less couple.

As you read through this issue, you'll find more about RVers celebrating the holidays. For one couple, it included helping to build a float for the Rose Parade.

Wherever you are in your travels, we wish you joy and prosperity -- and the happiest of holidays,

Holidays Far From Home

~ Full-time RVer, Bob H., shares a heart-warming story about celebrating the holidays as new RVers. You'll want to read what he writes….

The Joshua tree will never be a Christmas tree and most people call it ugly. My feeling is more one of appreciation. I have never seen anything in nature that is ugly -- just different. And, the difference is why we roam the country in our fifth wheel.

First Holidays as Full Timers

~ New full-time RVer Sandi shares her thoughts and plans for their first Christmas in the RV. She writes….

I am a Christmas "nut", as my hubby would say, and would begin decorating every room in the house, as well as the outdoors. We don't have that much room now, and I sold most of my holiday decor during an estate sale earlier this year. What I saved though, is full of memories.

Building A Rose Parade Float

~ Here Bob H. shares about their experience building a float (a prize winning float!) for the Rose Parade….

Building a Rose Parade float for the New Year's parade in Pasadena has been on Michelle's bucket list for many years and we both looked forward to it. Christmas was a travel day. We left our volunteer spot as campground hosts at Joshua Tree National Park and moved about ninety miles to our next adventure in Irwindale, CA, where we spent a week decorating a Rose Parade float.
