Lions Park Campground, Vermillion, South Dakota. Convenient, clean, safe, peaceful, and very affordable -- that's our impression of this little park. It's a city park campground, part of the Lions Park in Vermillion, SD.
Lions Park Campground, in what I consider downtown Vermillion. It's a small, simple campground, with basic amenities. Sites have 30-amp electric. There's potable water, a dump station, and a garbage dumpster.
Since we were here last spring, the city has put up a new bath and shower house. It is clean and modern. The one drawback to it is that being in South Dakota, they shut the water off during the winter so that it doesn't freeze.
We like the park's location. The Hy-Vee grocery store is across the street -- it has free wif-fi and a salad bar with over a dozen kinds of fresh fruit. For WallMart fans, there's one about three blocks away. If you need auto parts, O'Reilly's is across the street from WatlMart. For mechanic work, Henderson Exhaust Plus is close-by; we are happy with some work they did on our motorhome.
It's peaceful here in Lions Park City Campground, though I wouldn't describe it as quiet. Delightful squeals of little kids swooshing down the curvy slide break the silence. These are not screaming brats, but kids playing on the playground equipment that is part of the park. There's a bit of traffic. Community people use this park -- for walks, riding bike, and sitting in their cars to eat lunch.
Four squirrels are gathering black walnuts for the winter. They take breaks to play tag, running up and down the trees, chattering to each other.
Lions Park City Campground is not an RV park or resort. The campsites are set up for camping. They have picnic tables. Most sites have metal fire pits. At least one has a grill. It's a great spot for roasting hot dogs and marshmallows.
The campground fee here at the Vermillion Lions Park Campground, Vermillion, South Dakota, is $5.00 per night. We've stayed here in the spring and in the late fall, most recently in November 2016.
